Reactive power compensation systems
EL PAK offers a wide range of solutions for reactive power compensation systems, from the simplest to the most advanced systems. Designing, measurement and assembly services are integral part of our activity. We provide help in design-technical consultancy and as well in execution of power factor correction and ground-fault compensation system.
EL PAK Sp. z o.o. – cooperating with ELMA Energia – offers automatically controlled installations of reactive power compensation.
The most common proposed solution is “turnkey” execution of two separate automatically controlled banks of capacitors. Their work is controlled by automatic controller of power factor, applying the amount of units corresponding to the current demand of network’s capacitive power factor. The task of automatic controller is to guarantee the assumed tg φ on the level 0,0 to 0,2 (in hourly settlement).
In executed installations there was used the original way (being the subject of patent claim) of execution of the 5th harmonic’s filter, by selection of proper transformers’ decreasing parameters (20/0,4 kV) and cooperating banks of capacitors with transformers onto 0,4 kV nominal voltage. Obtaining passive filter requires a series switch-on with capacitor (in each bank unit) of reactance element having parameters which guarantee the proper resonance frequency. The use of transformer passive filter of the 5th harmonic prevents the occurrence of resonance phenomena and provides effective filtration of the harmonic.
Such solution allows to:
- use the low-voltage banks of capacitors as capacitive elements (450V)
- extend the life of correction system as a result of much higher lifetime of low-voltage connecting equipment in relation to medium-voltage circuit (20kV)
- possible reduction of response time of correction system from 5 min to 1 min
- increase protection service
